Environmental protection

In everything it does, TDK Electronics is fully aware of its responsibility toward future generations. Going beyond mere compliance with and the implementation of all relevant requirements, our goal is to constantly improve the company’s energy efficiency and continually reduce our consumption of resources. In 1998, we introduced an ISO 14001-compliant environmental management system across all our facilities worldwide. External institutions monitor our strict compliance with all relevant requirements. The energy management systems at our European facilities are also accredited in accordance with ISO 50001.

Worldwide, we already generate more than two thirds of the energy we use from renewable sources. We avoid hazardous substances and reduce waste to a minimum. TDK Electronics also places strong emphasis on the environmentally compatible disposal of wastewater.

Environmentally conscious product design

The environment is also an increasingly important consideration in the design of our products. It is something we are committed to as a company and something our customers are increasingly concerned about. We carefully consider the materials we use and how we design our products to be as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, we have developed capacitors with certified eco-foil and inductors that consist of almost half of recycled material.

Inductors made from recycled material

 CLT32 Pic

Our CLT32 inductors for automated driving consist of more than 40 percent recycled raw materials. They contain no silver and significantly less nickel. They also take up very little board space. The inductors replace several other components and have lower losses and longer service life.

Environmentally friendly SMD design

 SMD PTC ICL Pic

Our PTC-ICL thermistors in SMD design are used in on-board chargers for electric and hybrid vehicles (xEV). They protect the DC link capacitors from excessive inrush currents and the system from short circuits. Thanks to the surface-mounted design, they are significantly smaller than wired or molded designs. This also means that the transport packaging is smaller, and shipping is more environmentally friendly. They can be mounted faster and more energy-efficiently at the client's production site.

Lead-free NTC chips

 NTC Chip Pic

Our NTC chips feature an innovative electrode design: The bottom side is suitable for both soldering and silver pressure sintering, while the top side can be contacted by thick aluminum wire bonding. One of our products is also available in a lead-free version. These components are used for temperature control in power modules in wind turbines, in motor drives, in solar inverters, or the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Capacitors with bio based film

 Biocircular films Pic

Our ModCap power capacitors are available with certified bio-based film. Instead of fossil raw materials, this polypropylene is made from renewable resources, such as vegetable oil production or the pulp and paper industry. Capacitors with bio-based film have identical electrical and physical properties as products with conventional film.
