Chinese legislation on the avoidance of environmental pollution through electrical equipment

The law entitled Administrative Measures for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (China RoHS II) has been in force in China since July 1, 2016. It applies to electrical and electronic products that are imported to or manufactured in China.

Point 7, Other hazardous substances prescribed by the state, has been added to the existing list of substances. However, substances to be declared, prohibited substances and their respective thresholds remain unchanged from the previous version (China RoHS I) and correspond to the thresholds defined for these substances in the EU’s Regulation 2011/65/EU (RoHS II), Annex II:

  • Cadmium (Cd) and its compounds: 0.01%
  • Mercury (Hg) and its compounds: 0.1%
  • Lead (Pb) and its compounds: 0.1%
  • Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) and its compounds: 0.1%
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB): 0.1%
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): 0.1%

All electrical and electronic products within the scope of China RoHS II must be labeled with one of the logos described below. The legal basis is Chinese standard SJ/T 11364-2014.


Labeling pursuant to SJ/T 11354-2014

The choice of logo depends on whether or not the product contains hazardous substances above the relevant thresholds.

China_RoHS_gruen

The product contains no hazardous substances and can be recycled.

China_RoHS_orange

The product contains at least one hazardous substance but is safe to use during the Environmental Protection Use Period (EPUP). This period is indicated by the number of years shown on the logo. When the period expires, the product should be properly disposed of or recycled.

The label must not be attached to the product itself provided that at least one of the following conditions is met:

  • The surface of the product is smaller than 5 x 10³ mm².
  • The product has an unusual form.
  • Labeling could lead to impaired functionality.

The information contained in our RoHS list must be made available to accompany products that contain prohibited substances or substances for which labeling is prescribed.
