Nashik site in India
May 25, 2022
On track for the next 25 years
Nashik site in India celebrates its 25th anniversary. Over this period, the plant has substantially expanded and continuously broadened its expertise. Plans are already underway for the next phase of expansion: An additional building to produce DC capacitors will be constructed on an adjacent plot, which covers some 15,000 square meters. Production should start in 2023.
The plant comprises state-of-the-art production facilities for film capacitors, covering around 46,000 square meters with over 1500 employees. AC and DC capacitors, PEC and PFC capacitors and other capacitor types are produced for low and medium voltages. Over 60 percent of the products made at the Nashik site are exported worldwide. The site has received several awards from the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) for its export business.
Small steps, huge development
The plant started from scratch at a leased plot and a building with a production area covering around 1,000 square meters and a few offices. In the meantime, several production lines have been established and a new building has been constructed. In 2012, an R&D Center was set up at the site and today is home to a team of 36 engineers.
As the site celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016, the plant launched the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiative. It has been honored with the Excellence Award from the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM). The award underlined that the site “had launched an extremely effective production system.” The TPM measures would have resulted in “impressive results in terms of productivity, product quality and cost reductions.”
Bundling of production and the next phase of site expansion
In 2017, the company consolidated its Indian capacitor production in Nashik. Within the scope of Industry 4.0, the site implemented several projects to improve process transparency and data precision and, therefore, efficiency in production.
Plans are already underway for the next phase of site expansion. An additional building to produce DC capacitors will be constructed on an adjacent plot. Production should start in 2023.
50 percent of energy requirements produced by solar power
Throughout this process, the plant will be increasingly utilizing environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes, where possible, and accordingly using renewable energy sources. Indeed, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of one production building in 2019, which could cover 5 percent of the power required at that time. In April 2021, a photovoltaic system went into operation, which exclusively supplies the site with solar power. Today, the plant covers 50 percent of its energy requirements with renewable energy sources and, at the same time, has reduced its CO2 emissions by around 8,200 tons.
