Energy Varistors

The ultra reliable MOV

Made mostly of zinc oxide, the Metal Oxide Varistor or MOV is a semiconductor structure which makes it the most essential element for an arrester to work. This material is very durable and long lasting. It is the heart of a surge arrester.


Features

  • IEC / IEEE (ANSI) compliant
  • Customized diameter up to 125 mm and height from 2 mm up to 44 mm
  • High discharge current for 4/10 μs impulses
  • Repetitive charge transfer rating up to 8.0 C
  • Maximum energy absorption up to 3500 A on 2 ms impulses
  • High end gradient performance discs ranging from 200 V/mm up to 550 V/mm
  • Glass passivated collar
  • Excellent thermal recovery capability
  • Low resistive power dissipation
  • Available for special applications such as under oil for transformer windings protection, DC application and under gas (SF6) for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) with high gradient blocks.

  • Low resistive power dissipation at AC application

  • DC ageing with dispolarity

  • Maximum energy absorption up to 3500 A on 2 ms impulses

  • Gradient performance of 220 V/mm for standard application

    • 350 V/mm for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) application, upon request
    • 550 V/mm for customized application, upon request
