TDK named climate leader on CDP’s Annual ‘A-List’ for global water stewardship for the fourth consecutive year

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) has been recognized for its leadership in corporate transparency and performance on water security by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its annual ‘A-List’. This selection marks the fourth time CDP named TDK an "A-List Company," in this category, signaling TDK’s continued prioritization of sustainability.

CDP is a global not-for-profit initiative that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy. In 2023, over 740 financial institutions with over US$136 trillion in assets requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform. A record-breaking 23,000 companies responded.

A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Those that don’t disclose or provide insufficient information are scored an F.

Based on data reported through the CDP’s 2023 Water Security questionnaire, TDK is one of a small number of companies that achieved an ‘A’, out of over 21,000 companies scored. In addition, TDK secured "A-" ranking in the climate change category for the four consecutive year.

TDK has established the TDK Environmental Charter, consisting of the “Basic Principle on the Environment” and the “Basic Policy on the Environment,” which makes up the entire group's environment policy aimed at contributing to the sustainable development of society. In line with the charter, TDK formulated the
“Environmental Vision and Environmental Action Plan” as a fundamental framework for implementing specific environmental activities and initiatives. To bring more awareness to the importance of water as a natural resource, TDK set a target for reducing water use and is striving to control water-related risks. For fiscal year 2023 TDK had set the goal to reduce the water withdrawal intensity by 1.5% vs the previous fiscal year. The result amounted to 16,635,000 m³ total water withdrawal, which was down 2.4% from the previous fiscal year. In addition, the intensity improved by 17.8%.
