Heidenheim generates its own solar power

 Teaser_LG

Almost all TEG locations now use environmentally friendly electricity generated from 100 percent renewable energies and their own solar power. The Heidenheim site has now also installed a photovoltaic system. It is expected to generate around 70 megawatt hours of electricity per year, which corresponds to 1 percent of the site's electricity needs.

The new photovoltaic system consists of 174 panels with a surface area of 340 square meters. For fire safety reasons, it was not installed on one of the plant's roofs, but on the wall of the warehouse. “Our buildings date back to the Siemens era, and the roofs do not meet the requirements for photovoltaic systems,” says Guenter Kiener, Head of Environmental Protection / Facility Management at the Heidenheim site.

But the vertical installation on the warehouse wall also has advantages: “When the sun is lower in the sky in spring and fall, this photovoltaic system is more efficient than panels installed on a roof,” Kiener continues.
