As the UX Researcher-Customery Discovery, you will focus on customer discovery and act as the voice of the customer across our internal startup incubation program. Your core mission is to ensure that every venture we build is grounded in real customer needs, motivations, and pain points. Partnering closely with founder teams, UX Designers, and product leads, you will define, test, and optimize customer journeys from early discovery through problem-solution fit. You will embed a strong customer-centric mindset into early stages of venture creation, translating insights into clear guidance that shapes product strategy, experience design, and business decisions.

UX Researcher - Customer Discovery (m/f/d)

Your responsibilities

  • Plan and execute end-to-end customer research and testing strategies for early-stage ventures, including proper documentation and knowledge management
  • Design and run qualitative research (Interviews, usability testing, surveys, analytics, focus groups) to uncover customer needs, pain points, and expectations
  • Develop qualitative testing frameworks, test scripts, Jobs-to-be-done, personas and customer journeys
  • Synthesize research findings into actionable recommendations
  • Own and execute recruiting strategies to identify and engage suitable interview and testing participants
  • Support UX Designers on storyboards, early concepts, and rapid prototyping to validate business hypothesis
  • Advocate for design-thinking in user-centric approaches and ensure customer perspectives are consistently integrated into incubation workflows
  • Coach and support founder teams through workshops and hands-on sessions on customer discovery, market research, and customer empathy
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and iteration driven by customer feedback

Your qualification

  • You have successfully completed a degree in Innovation, design and/or user experience, Business Administration or equivalent professional training. Master degree is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in design thinking and agile frameworks
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a similar position, ideally in startups, venture studios, incubators, or innovation teams
  • Deep knowledge of qualitative and mixed-method research (e.g., interviews, usability testing, surveys)
  • Comfortable supporting UX Designers in rapid prototyping with a deep working knowledge of prototyping and testing tools (e.g., Figma) as well as pitch deck design
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops and sessions and coaching founder teams on customer-centric thinking
  • Flexibility, resilience, a positive mindset and a dynamic environment do not cause you any difficulties
  • Fluent in English. Japanese knowledge is a plus.
