Hongqi plant in China is a Green Factory
TDK’s Hongqi plant in China recently won a award as a green factory as part of the country’s Made in China 2025 initiative. The prize was presented by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in recognition of successful activities to save energy and protect the environment.
Made in China 2025 is an initiative launched by the Chinese State Council and Premier Li Keqiang in 2015 to strengthen China's industrial base. At the Hongqi plant fluorescent lamps were replaced with far more energy-efficient LED systems, for example, and a solar heating system was installed. Both measures are saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions. Production processes have also been improved and automated to help protect the environment. In 2017, the plant replaced its fleet of diesel buses with modern electric busses that transport about 300 people to and from work along eight different routes every day.
The Hongqi plant is currently in the process of moving to a new site, which will be about one third larger. Being recognized as a green factory is important for the new site, too. Additional installations there will further ramp up the plant’s contribution to protecting the environment. One such measure involves installing systems to treat exhaust gases for the entire the 97,000 square meter production plant. Another will be a photovoltaic installation on the roof of the facility.
