Food for 333 people – for a whole year

The association Die Muenchner Tafel e.V. once again receives the joint Christmas donation of 26,000 euros from TDK Electronics, TDK Europe and TDK Management Services. Every week, the volunteers distribute food donations to people in urgent need. TDK's donation will support 333 guests for one year as part of the host campaign.

“Poverty can affect anyone. We help.” Under this motto, the Muenchner Tafel association has been supporting people in need with food for more than 25 years. Today, 700 volunteers are working to provide around 22,000 people with more than 125,000 kilos of food free of charge every week.

“People come to us who have lost the ground under their feet after severe strokes of bad luck, single parents, families with many children, the unemployed, the sick, pensioners,” says the association's chairperson Hannelore Kiethe. “The food we distribute is of perfectly good quality. Most donations come from overproduction, have typing errors on the label or have damaged outer packaging.”

 Winter Vergabestelle

The Muenchner Tafel can be relied on: Even when it snows, the volunteers set up their stalls to distribute food to those in need.

“Healthy and sufficient food should be a matter of standard in Germany," says TEG CSO Joachim Thiele. "This makes it all the more worrying that even in prosperous cities like Munich, people would have to go hungry without the voluntary commitment of others. That's why our Christmas donation supports the Muenchner Tafel, which has been actively helping tens of thousands of people on the poverty line for many years. Today we were able to see for ourselves on site how impressively the complex logistics of daily food distribution for more than 22,000 people are organized and carried out by the many volunteers."

The association is financed exclusively by membership fees and donations, which directly benefit the needy. The prerequisite for support is that the guests prove their need for assistance.
