Lukas von Briehl, Electrical Engineer at Swissloop, is happy about the joint success: "This is the result of months of effort as a team and cooperation with our partners from industry," he says. "We are grateful to our sponsor TDK not only for the financial support, but also for the technical assistance with component selection and design-in, which contributed significantly to our success.”

TEG CEO Dr. Werner Lohwasser promptly congratulated: “This is another great success for the team, and our expertise certainly made a valuable contribution again this year. We hope everyone took the opportunity to compete, learn and enjoy the competition. Congratulations to all the winners, especially the Swissloop team, and my thanks to all our employees who supported the project!”

Second Hyperloop Event in Europe

Hyperloop stands for the mobility/transport concept of an ultra-fast magnetic levitation train that is sent through a vacuum tube at a maximum speed of up to 1200 km/h, i.e. at almost the speed of sound. The concept is supported by Elon Musk, who had a test track built for it in California. The progress made in developing the technology was presented in Europe for the first time at the European Hyperloop Week (EHW) in Valencia, Spain last year. This year the conference and evaluation is taking place in Delft, the Netherlands. The program included conferences and lectures as well as a competition of the vehicle capsules, the pods.

The EHW is hosted by four student teams, including Swissloop from the ETH university in Zurich.16 international teams applied for the competition. "Hyperloop Week is about trying things that have never been done before and creatively approaching the fifth transport concept alongside cars, ships, trains and planes," says Lukas von Briehl from Swissloop. "Getting to know other students and their projects, sharing problems and solutions and passing on experiences: That is the common way to make a transport concept feasible."
