Welcome to Display Week 2019! We are showing our innovative portfolio of TDK solutions for haptic feedback in a wide variety of displays. We are also presenting PiezoListen™ ultra-thin piezo speakers that can be integrated into many different surfaces.
Miniaturized PowerHap™ piezo actuators
The portfolio of PowerHap piezo actuators for haptic feedback has been extended with the new miniature 0904H014V060 and 1204H018V060 rectangular actuators. They have dimensions of only 9 x 3.75 x 1.4 mm and 12 x 4 x 1.8 mm, respectively. At the maximum operating voltage of 60 V, the new actuators can accelerate a mass of 100 grams at 3.3 g (pk) or 5 g (pk) with maximum displacements of 15 µm or 27 µm, respectively.
PowerHap high large acceleration and forces in a very compact design, coupled with a short response time of less than one millisecond. A key feature is the low energy consumption of only 0.35 mJ or 0.6 mJ per feedback. In addition to the actuator properties, PowerHap also offers good sensing functionality by using the inverse piezo effect.
Thanks to their outstanding performance, PowerHap actuators are technologically superior to conventional electromagnetic solutions such as ERM motors (eccentric rotary mass) and LRA actuators (linear resonant actuator).
Typical application areas for the new PowerHap actuators include smartphones and tablets, household appliances, games consoles, VR/AR equipment, digitizers and handheld medical devices. The order codes are Z63000Z2910Z 1Z41 and Z63000Z2910Z 1Z39, respectively.
Ultra-thin PiezoHapt™ actuator with low driving voltage
The ultra-thin PiezoHapt™ actuators feature a very short response time of just 4 ms. PiezoHapt has a unimorph design consisting of a multilayer piezo element bonded to one side of a vibration plate. With a thickness of a mere 0.35 mm the new haptic actuator is much thinner than conventional eccentric rotary motors and linear resonant actuators, and one of the world's thinnest haptic devices. Moreover, thanks to its fast rise time, PiezoHapt represents a power-saving solution compared to conventional solutions.
The actuator can be driven with low voltages of ≤24 V and can produce a wide variety of vibration patterns, depending on the amplitude and frequency of the voltage applied. The new PHUA8060-35A-33-000 type has a footprint of 80 mm x 60 mm (vibration plate). At a frequency of 200 Hz (sine-wave) and a voltage of 24 V peak, the component offers a typical displacement of 55 µm. The PHUA3015-30A-21-000 type has compacter dimensions of 15 mm x 30 mm and is designed for an operating voltage of ≤12 V.
